I had read the book Running Wild by M. Morpurgo which provoked lots of thoughts about wildlife and orangutans in particular. So, when my art teacher mentioned the SFS Explorers Against Extinction competition, I knew immediately what I wanted to draw. The Orangutan is crying because of the dangers to its habitat such as deforestation, weather phenomena, illegal killing etc. All these dangers are represented by the white spots on my drawing.

Yulia Konstantinova, the creator of the Crying Orangutan, is 9 years old. She is fond of animals, attends horse-riding lessons and is dreaming about her own dogs, she loves books and movies about animals. Yulia takes animal rights seriously, everything to do with climate change and animals extinction triggers her. In her free time Yulia enjoys reading and drawing immensely. She also gets enjoyment from playing piano, singing and going to the theatre.
