Oil on Fig Wood

29 cm x 42 cm

Oil on 6mm thick circles of fig wood, glued on painted hardboard. Depicting vulnerable and endangered Rainforest species. Evoking the experience of viewing through binoculars. Partial images in sharp focus others softer. The 3 plain circles represent species that are now EW. Species are identified using pyrography on the edge of each piece.

I am a landscape and wildlife artist living in Devon. I have a degree in Textile Design and my work is strongly influenced by pattern and natural forms. I enjoy traveling and this piece in particular was inspired by a trip to Iguazu - the sight of toucans and giant butterflies.
