I have created Submerged to help shed light on the rapidly decreasing population of hippos. In the world of conservation, very little attention is given to hippos compared to other animals like elephants and rhinos, yet they are just as threatened by poachers because of their massive teeth. I wanted the piece to be really colourful, not only to enhance the sheer beauty of this creature, but also to help convey the emotion they feel, just like any other being on the planet, the red being love and the blue being sadness and fear that comes with being poached.

I am a 16 year old studying Animal Management with a passion for conservation and art. I have always enjoyed painting, however I decided against starting a career in art because I felt that conservation was more important.
