Metallic and regular acrylic pens, pastels, Sharpie pens

21 cm x 29 cm

I chose to paint the Poison Dart Frog as my mind boggles how a creature the size of a paper clip can have the ability to kill a human. I was drawn to the picture I found on Earth.com because of its stunning vibrant colours. My initial intention was to use oil pastels but I couldn't get the colours vibrant enough. I found it challenging using the acrylic pens as I had never used acrylics before and boy it dries fast! I needed depth and found shading difficult with the pens so I used pastels which brought about a different set of problems. However, I'm glad I used the acrylics. I don't think I would've got the same effect and vibrancy, especially on black paper.

I'm an amateur artist, self taught and I've always wanted to be that art student! Sadly never happened. I'm 49 years old, married and a busy working mum. I'm passionate about supporting endangered animals and I love how all of this contributes to raising funds for this campaign. I had never heard of this charity until I read it on Bobby Rogueone's Instagram page. I'm glad I did as it inspired me to paint again, probably after more than 20 years. I loved it!
